I attended Joe McNally's Location Lighting Workshop last Friday and it lived up to my expectations and then some more. It was fantastic to watch he and his assistants setup scenarios and then see his uncanny ability to develop images that started out like the kind of stuff I shoot were refined to the first class work that is Joe's signature. If you yearn like I do to create amazing lighting in your photos and get a chance it is totally worth the time and dollars to go to this workshop.
I've got pictures going on public display yet again. This time the local Metro newspaper is participating in the monthly First Friday Art Walk in the gallery district of downtown San Jose. They did a reader event where photographers could submit picture for the the "In Motion" and two of mine were chosen. They will display them in their street side window for a month and the photographer they choose as their favorite will get a feature article written about them in an upcoming issue. One of my entries was my ole standby surfing shot called 'liftoff On The Lineup'. This is what I call a catch shot taken over at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz California. I was diligently trying to get superb surfing shots on the Lane and took a break to just look around between sets. I thought some surfers off in the distance looked interesting so I took a random shot of them catching this wave. So far I've entered it in three 'competitions' and it has made it to the finals in all three. Go figure...
BTW, a 'catch' shot for me is a shot where I just put the camera to my eye and randomly shoot with no particular purpose in mind. An 'Oh, that looks sorta interesting' shot....
