Schmapps Monterey Guide

As you can see I've added the Schmapp's Monterey and Carmel ninth edition widget to my sidebar. I've done this because they have most graciously included one of my purple jellies images from the Monterey Bay Aqaurium in their guide book. Having said all that, I do believe they included every other MBA image available off of Flickr as well. LOL
Oh well, from humble beginnings come a life of infamy...

After doing the Kelby photo walk I was anxious to find another opportunity and thru Facebook I found a group in the Monterey area. Sunday we did our first walk at Mission San Juan Bautista. If anyone is interested I've posted more pictures at http://greybeard.zenfolio.com/p63148449

should I stay or should I go

that is the question.
My horridscope this week keeps saying think outside the box and pursue new directions.
Decisions decisions decisions
I really need to learn how to write good haiku

Reading Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne. Very insightful observations and I recommend it to all.

Exploring new directions

I haven't posted in a while (like I ever posted regularly LOL) but things are happening. By chance I came across an opportunity that strikes me as being just right for moving my life along. A small private school in Santa Cruz is looking for a 'director of technology' and I am getting consideration for the position. It would be a combination of teaching and developing strategies for implementing the latest technology in the classroom. Exciting stuff for me and a perfect way to bring together all that I have done so far in my life.
I've had a couple of informal conversations with decision makers so far and they have gone well I think. Formally interviewing tomorrow night, updates here to follow.

This and That

Update

I attended Joe McNally's Location Lighting Workshop last Friday and it lived up to my expectations and then some more. It was fantastic to watch he and his assistants setup scenarios and then see his uncanny ability to develop images that started out like the kind of stuff I shoot were refined to the first class work that is Joe's signature. If you yearn like I do to create amazing lighting in your photos and get a chance it is totally worth the time and dollars to go to this workshop.
I've got pictures going on public display yet again. This time the local Metro newspaper is participating in the monthly First Friday Art Walk in the gallery district of downtown San Jose. They did a reader event where photographers could submit picture for the the "In Motion" and two of mine were chosen. They will display them in their street side window for a month and the photographer they choose as their favorite will get a feature article written about them in an upcoming issue. One of my entries was my ole standby surfing shot called 'liftoff On The Lineup'. This is what I call a catch shot taken over at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz California. I was diligently trying to get superb surfing shots on the Lane and took a break to just look around between sets. I thought some surfers off in the distance looked interesting so I took a random shot of them catching this wave. So far I've entered it in three 'competitions' and it has made it to the finals in all three. Go figure...
BTW, a 'catch' shot for me is a shot where I just put the camera to my eye and randomly shoot with no particular purpose in mind. An 'Oh, that looks sorta interesting' shot....

I never was a great writer or conversationalist so blogging should be an interesting challenge. Let's kick it off by saying that I'm excited about attending Joe McNally's lighting seminar tomorrow. My wonderful wife bought me a ticket as a really nice surprise birthday present. Joe is so good at lighting and such a fantastic presenter that I can hardly wait.
